Kate Beckinsale appears to have had a wonderful time working with Theo James for Underworld: Blood Wars that she managed to make a joke about his looks. The two reunited for the upcoming film which is the fifth installment of the Underworld series. Kate and Theo already teamed up in 2012 for Underworld: Awakening . The Millennium Post reported how pleased Kate was to collaborate with the Divergent actor.
“It was great working with Theo again. It’s almost like this British jolly theater trip which he and I were part of. Of course, he is so unattractive that it’s hard to look him full in the face.”
She likewise revealed that she rented a ferret for Theo just to cheer him up. Kate said that no one knew about the little gesture. In a released synopsis, Underworld: Blood Wars still follows the life of Selene as she continues to engage in battles with both vampires and Lycans. Theo’s character, David, is still Selene’s ally.
Reports previously suggested that Theo’s out of the supernatural franchise, but an option in his contract allowed him to return despite being locked to the Divergent franchise. The film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s bestselling novels has one more film in the pipeline.
As opposed to the excitement that’s brewing for Underworld: Blood Wars , the same may not be said for the Divergent franchise. At the moment, the fate of the final film, The Divergent Series: Ascendant , is uncertain because Lionsgate wants to release it on television instead of the big screen.
If Lionsgate gives green light to the said change, the cast members fans have loved might soon quit. Shailene Woodley told The Today Show that she herself is unsure of their situation.
“They haven’t finalized any decisions, so it’s actually a moot point to talk about it now, out of respect to Lionsgate and everyone involved. I’m not exactly sure where they stand so we are kind of all in a limbo game. I signed up to tell the whole story of Tris [the protagonist in the franchise based on Roth’s novels], and I would love to be able to do that. Nothing would make me happier.”
She likewise told the Toronto Sun that dividing the final book into two movies – a step that isn’t rare in the industry – might not be a good idea. Lionsgate also did the “threequel” strategy with its Twilight and Hunger Games franchise. While the strategy worked for J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Shailene thinks that “there’s not enough content in Allegiant to make two films.”
Earlier this month, Miles Teller, who plays the role of Peter, admitted to E! that studio executives haven’t talked to them yet about their plans.
“I have not talked to anyone. We haven’t filmed one in like a year and a half…My phone’s not ringing for it.”
A production source previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Lionsgate’s merely reducing the final film’s budget. It seems that they are now considering a television network release as it is relatively less risky.
Cast members were originally scheduled to return for filming this past summer because the movie’s intended release is June 2017. It is apparent that the producers won’t meet the deadline since Lionsgate also promised that they won’t rush production anymore following Divergent Series: Allegiant’s weak box office performance.
Theo hasn’t spoken about Lionsgate’s plans yet. He previously opened up to Comicbook that he doesn’t mind starring in films where women have the lead roles. “It’s very easy, very good. We’re in a world where there’s lots of great female-led movies and TV series, so it’s great,” he remarked.
