It’s been awhile since Liam Hemsworth was filming The Hunger Games and its sequels, but that’s just what he was reminded of recently while interviewing on The Graham Norton Show for Independence Day: Resurgence . The actor began reminiscing about The Hunger Games and revealing that his childhood had been like a real life Hunger Games, with the aggressive rivalry he shared with older brothers Chris and Luke. From there, Hemsworth revealed what it was like to work on the film with Jennifer Lawrence and her unique ways of getting a reaction from her co-star at the worst possible moment.
Liam Hemsworth Lived A Real Life Hunger Games As A Child
Hemsworth revealed that life with his brothers was a constant battle of wills, because each of them had always had such a strong competitive nature, making their lives resemble something out of The Hunger Games . One incident in particular came to mind while Liam was interviewing on The Graham Norton Show . He explained that he and his brothers were always getting into fights, but, because he was the youngest and smallest Hemsworth, he had to resort to using weapons to defend himself.
“So one day when I was about five we had a fight in the kitchen about using the toaster, or something, and I picked up a kitchen knife and threw it at his head and the handle hit him in the forehead,” confessed Liam.
The Independence Day: Resurgence actor admitted that the attack was intentional and perfectly aimed.
“I could have hit him with the other end if I’d wanted to – it was just a warning shot!”
Of course, the Hemsworth brothers get along better these days, particularly with each of them enjoying their own successful careers, but Liam says he’s not eager to press his luck by working together. The Independence Day: Resurgence actor says working together on the same project would be a mistake. Hemsworth recalls working with brother Luke on a television show about 10 years ago, detailing that the situation was troublesome from the very beginning.
“I did a TV show about 10 years ago with Luke and he came in for a day’s work. All the cameras were on me and Luke was trying to distract me all the time – brotherly love!”
The Hunger Games Star Liam Hemsworth Reveals Jennifer Lawrence’s Sexually-Charged Sense Of Humor
There’s no denying that Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most outspoken celebrities in Hollywood, whether she’s standing up against injustice or, as Liam Hemsworth reveals, trying to get a rise out of her co-stars. While Lawrence and Hemsworth were filming The Hunger Games together, Liam reveals that Jennifer would say things to him to make him laugh just as filming was set to begin.
“She often, right before a take, would turn to me and ask me if I liked having sex with kangaroos — anything along those lines,” Hemsworth laughed. “You never really know what’s going to come out of her mouth.”
The rest of the Independence Day: Resurgence cast was also on The Graham Norton Show with Hemsworth, so, as Liam related this story, Dwayne Johnson asked how he had responded to Lawrence’s question about kangaroo sex.
“Absolutely!” Liam joked. “That’s what Australians do!”
Speaking of his unusual interactions with co-stars, Liam also revealed that he received an on set injury from Jean-Claude Van Damme, while filming The Expendables 2 . Hemsworth says the scene called for him to have his hands bound behind his back as Van Damme kicked a knife to his chest, but the scene went slightly awry and the kick actually met with Liam’s chest.
“I’m not going to show any pain to Van Damme, and I stood up and he (Van Damme) takes his glasses off and says, ‘It’s okay, it was a controlled kick.’ I’m like, ‘There was nothing controlled about it, you kicked me in the chest!’ ”
