Green Day Officially Cancels Remaining 2012 Shows

Green Day has cancelled the remainder of their scheduled 2012 appearances, according to a post on the band’s official Facebook page . Additionally, dates that were slated for January and February of 2013 have been postponed until further notice.

The club tour that Green Day was to kick off on September 26 in Seattle is now officially a done deal. Those individuals who purchased tickets to these shows can get refunds at the point of purchase. For now, there are currently no places to reschedule these dates.

“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” Green Day’s Mike Dirnt explained in a statement. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

“We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” Tre Cool added. “If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”

Shortly after his public meltdown during the band’s iHeartRadio appearance in September, singer Billie Joe Armstrong made the decision to enter rehab. Mike Dirnt explained that he should have seen the writing on the wall.

“There were signs of things hitting the fan,” he said. “We hadn’t slept in forever and Billie had definitely had the worst of it. He’d been going through his own struggles. We were there with him but you can only handle things on your own. At the end of the day when we got off the road the most important thing was my friend’s life.”

During his now-infamous rant at the iHeartRadio Festival, Armstrong expressed his displeasure with how he and his bandmates were treated at the event. In order to give Usher more time on stage, Green Day had their set cut short by roughly 20 minutes. Irritated and angry, the singer unleashed his fury upon the crowd.

“I’m not f***ing Justin Bieber, you motherf*****s. You’ve got to be f***ing joking. I got one minute left,” Armstrong vented.

The singer’s trip to rehab ultimately derailed a number of scheduled appearances, forcing band members to address the issue on Facebook. One high-profile show the band cancelled was the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival in New Orleans.

“Canceling shows is something we rarely do. We never want to let our fans down, and we are grateful for all of you being understanding during this time,” Tre Cool explained in a statement.

In addition to canceling the band’s remaining appearances for the year, Green Day also revealed that the group’s next album ¡Tré! will be released on December 11, 2012 instead of January 15, 2013. Make sure to mark your calendars accordingly.
