Tim Tebow is getting the cold shoulder once again with 44-year-old NFL quarterback Brett Favre being considered by the St. Louis Rams .
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the latest Tim Tebow news update has the former NFL quarterback missing in action .
Brett Favre is 44 years old and currently working as a volunteer offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for a high school team in Mississippi. We last saw Brett Favre in the NFL in 2010. Favre was concussed early in the game and replaced by Joe Webb. So he knows his time with the NFL is over and told his agent to tell the St. Louis Rams no:
“It’s flattering, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to do that. I do watch games, [but] I don’t watch them a lot. I can honestly sit here and say I don’t go ‘I want to do that’ or ‘I feel like I could do that better.’ I leave that up to other people. I think if anything the last year I played was an obvious, writing-on-the-wall vision for you, if you will. It was time. When I left the NFL, it felt like I didn’t need to stick around. I didn’t need to be a part of it to feel like I had a purpose in life.”
For the most part, Tim Tebow rumors are spread because of Tebowmania and sports news writers know this. Still, Tim Tebow was reportedly in a short list of potential quarterback replacements for Sam Bradford after the injury. But Brett Favre got a call and Tim Tebow did not.
The St. Louis Rams ended up signing Austin Davis and Brady Quinn, who have reputations of being an unknown and a “below-average quarterback,” respectively. Some sports writers believe NFL quarterbacks like the Vikings’ Josh Freeman are better than Brett Favre in his current state. To make a comparison, Tampa Bay dumped Josh Freeman due to poor performance and in a recent 23-7 loss to the Giants completed only 20 out of 53 throws. Yet Tim Tebow’s throwing motion is so horrible?
While Tim Tebow’s NFL statistics show him to be an average NFL quarterback, he was supposedly a fantastic leader with the Broncos. His running game is one thing many NFL quarterbacks cannot duplicate. How many times do you see a quarterback bowl over a defense lineman? Tim Tebow was even named Forbes’ most influential athlete for the year. In 2012, Tim Tebow was ranked number 95 by his peers in the NFL Top 100. Near the end of the 2011-2012 season, Tim Tebow was ranked number five out of the NFL’s 32 starting quarterbacks. So while Tim Tebow is unlikely to be one of the top 10 NFL quarterbacks right now it’s a good chance he’s not number 32. Besides, the St. Louis Rams could have used him as a backup quarterback, not a starter.
NFL insiders say media hype caused Tim Tebow to be blackballed due to his Christian beliefs . But sports writer Dustin Nosler says the media hype surrounding Tim Tebow is exactly what the St. Louis Rams need right now:
“The Rams really don’t have much to lose, other than more games…. The Rams are 3-4 with a loss upcoming against the soon-to-be 7-1 Seahawks…. I’m not saying they should tank the rest of the season, but there needs to be a reason fans show up to the Edward Jones Dome and turn on the game at home every week…. Tebow would bring media coverage to a team that could use it.”
Tim Tebow’s running game is also highlighted as positive trait yet again. So any other NFL team looking to change up their offensive strategy should consider Tim Tebow if only for that reason.
How do you think the NFL should use Tim Tebow?
