Tim Tebow may be coming back to the NFL, but it would be at the expense of Sam Bradford’s season.
The St. Louis Rams starting quarterback went down late in Sunday’s game with what may be a torn ACL. If the injury news is correct, Sam Bradford would be done for the season, leaving the Rams with only backup Kellen Clemens on the roster.
Clemens came in after Bradford was inured, completing 2 of 4 passes for 19 yards.
With no other quarterback on either their roster or practice squad, the Rams would need to find a quarterback quickly. Reports on Sunday said that Tim Tebow might be one of their first looks.
Mike Silver of NFL Network reported that the Rams have discussed signing Tebow, who was cut by the New England Patriots at the end of the preseason and has been waiting for a call to return to the NFL ever since.
After leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs and a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round, Tebow spent one disappointing season with the New York Jets in which he rarely saw the field. After being cut the Patriots picked up Tebow for training camp, but he failed to secure a spot on the team behind Tom Brady.
In the weeks since being cut, Tebow has fielded offers from arena football leagues and even Russia , but turned them down in the hopes of returning to the NFL. Reports say he has also resisted calls to convert to a tight end or H-back, saying he only wants to play quarterback.
Tebow’s return has seemed unlikely, given his inaccuracy and the media circus that would be sure to follow.
Even Silver threw cold water on Tebow-to-the-Rams rumor, saying he didn’t believe the team would actually sign Tebow.
I believe it’s unlikely they’ll actually sign him. RT @NFL_ATL From @MikeSilver : Rams have discussed signing Tim Tebow. Post to come.
