Bruce Jenner revealed to the world that he is transgender during an interview with Diane Sawyer that aired on Friday, April 25.
Now, in a previously unseen clip shown for the first time this morning on Good Morning America , Bruce is seen talking to Diane , comparing life to running a decathlon.
“Actually, I thought of the title for a book is ‘The Eleventh Event: Overcoming Life’s Obstacle’… because life is much more difficult than running a decathlon, I guarantee you,” he said , according to ABC News .
“Everybody’s got stuff,” the 65-year-old former Olympic gold medalist and reality star continued.
“Everybody’s got their things that they’ve got to deal with. This happens to be my thing that I’ve dealt with my whole life. I’m trying to do something about it for the good, OK. And I don’t think anybody could be critical about that. At least I hope not.”
While there has been speculation that Bruce was wanting to become a woman for a while now, the interview, titled Bruce Jenner: The Interview , was the first time that he actually confirmed that he is transgender.
“Yes, and for all intents and purposes, I am a woman,” Jenner told Sawyer during the special edition episode of 20/20 .
“It’s going to be tough. I’ve been thinking about this day forever and what I should do with my life… how do I tell people what I’ve been through? Today is that day, and I get to choose.”
Bruce continued by explaining that he has always had conflicting emotions regarding his gender, and first tried on women’s clothing at the age of five.
“I’ve always been very confused with my gender identity,” Bruce said. “My brain is much more female than it is male… it’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.”
Jenner’s interview has sparked a national debate about gender. However, many have voiced their support for Bruce, some even calling him a “hero.”
“Understandingly, this has been very hard for me. You will hear what I have to say when I’m ready to but…,” Kylie Jenner, Bruce’s youngest daughter tweeted to her father. “..this isn’t about me. I’m so proud of you, Dad. You are so brave. My beautiful Hero.”
