Things are looking up for Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis . In the midst of their child custody war, the Southern Charm stars sat down for an amicable lunch date. Is this a taste of things to come for the estranged couple?
Radar Online reports that Ravenel and Dennis shared some alone time at the Gentry Bar & Room in Charleston. Although the pair appeared happy during the outing, their kids, Kensington and St. Julien, did not join them. The pair also reunited in front of the cameras later that evening.
The outing doesn’t come as a big surprise for the warring couple. In the latest episode of Southern Charm , People reports that Dennis wrote a letter to Ravenel that expressed regret on how their marriage ended. Dennis confessed that she was “truly regretful of the way things ended with us, leaving our children with only their father or their mother, and never both together. For that, I am truly and sincerely sorry to them — but also to you.”
Dennis later admitted that she believes Ravenel is having trouble finding love because of his own insecurities. She claims these feelings stem from his relationship with his father. “If I were to see him, I would just want to give him a big hug and say that I’m sorry and that I love him,” she shared.
Despite Dennis’ comments and her secret lunch with Ravenel, their truce was only temporary. Their custody battle continues to rage on in court, and a judge recently forced Dennis to sign a confidentiality waiver to free up her medical records. Failing to sign the waiver would have resulted in some jail time.
Dennis, of course, wasted little time firing back. Shortly after she signed the agreement, the reality star blasted Ravenel for using cocaine and mushrooms in front of the children. She also claimed that he purposefully tries to alienate her from the family.
In response, Radar Online reports that Ravenel wants to put Dennis in jail and doesn’t want her around the kids. The Southern Charm star filed paperwork in family court that accused Dennis of spreading “false accusations, insinuations, and derogatory statements.” He later added that Dennis released portions of her medical records to the public in order to intentionally disobey the court.
In light of these charges, Ravenel requested the court to punish Dennis and put her behind bars. The medical records in question pertain to Dennis’ stint in rehab in the summer of 2016. “Defendant knows that if she fails to comply with the Orders and/or this Agreement that she may be subject to jail, a fine and/or community service,” the judge explained.
Ravenel was granted full custody of the kids following the divorce. Although Dennis clearly has a drug problem, Ravenel has a history of substance abuse as well. Back in 2007, when Ravenel was the state treasurer of South Carolina, he was caught in possession of cocaine. The charges led to his dismissal from the post, though Ravenel has been clean for a number of years. In 2014, however, police arrested Ravenel and charged him with a DWI.
Ravenel and Dennis have not commented on the latest developments surrounding their custody battle. While it appears as though their feud is getting better on the show, they clearly have a lot of issues to work out. We can only hope they get their act together for the sake of their two kids, who are currently residing with Ravenel and get scheduled visits with Dennis.
