Brooke Burke-Charvet has announced that she is leaving Dancing with the Stars – but it’s not her choice.
Brooke has been co-hosting the show with Tom Bergeron from the tenth season until the most recent seventeenth season.
People Magazine reports that Burke-Shavet, 42, seemed somewhat shocked at the fact that the ABC Network was actually letting her go.
At midnight on Saturday, she tweeted:
“Weird day… Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS …ME. Tom Bergeron didn’t even read my name.”
The cast and crew of Dancing With The Stars were both surprised and shocked, according to what a source told People: “It was a shock they let Brooke go. The cast and crew loved her. It’s very sad.”
On Friday evening, the actress, model, dancer, and TV host released her statement to E! Online , the first publication to report the news.
“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture.
“I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”
Brooke Burke-Charvet was a contestant in the seventh season of DWTS, and won the series together with her partner, Derek Hough
The producers have given no indication yet as to who will replace Brooke, and she was not the first victim of policy changes.
The eighteenth season will launch on March 17 without bandleader and orchestrator Harold Wheeler, who was recently fired together with all 28 members of his band.
Brooke Burke-Charvet was born in Hartford, Connecticut to a Portuguese mother and a father of mixed French and Irish descent.
She has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Garth Fisher from 2001 – 2005. Currently, she is married to David Charvet; she has two children from each marriage.
In 2012 Burke-Charvet went public with the news that she was suffering from thyroid cancer, but announced shortly after that the cancer had been removed.
Compared to that, being removed from DWTS is hopefully being viewed by Brooke as relatively unimportant.
