The world No. 1 and top seed player in the Wimbledon Men’s Open Championships 2017 had just been knocked out in the quarterfinal rounds. A massive upset by the 24th seed Sam Querrey of the United States forced the ailing Murray to succumb in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 defeat to the 29-year-old American.
The first set gave Murray the advantage when he rolled down the American in a 6-3 win. Sam Querrey struggled to get in the game by claiming the second set in a score of 4-6. The defending champion sliced through a tiebreaker 7-6 (1) in the third set.
Murray could have taken the fourth set and match but was surprised when Querrey demolished him in just 22 minutes to even the games at two all. The yank continued his rampage to a 3-0 lead till Murray hitched in at 3-1 where he got stuck and went down limping in the biggest upset of the tournament, reports SB Nation .
This is Sam Querrey’s 42nd try to reach the semi-final rounds and became the first protagonist to occupy the last four slots of the tournament. The American from California is the first yank to set foot in the Wimbledon semi-finals since Andy Roddick back in 2009.

Other results for the quarterfinals matches saw another top seed hacked from the competition. Second seed Novak Djokovic fell from the barrage of Czech Tomas Berdych. It was unfortunate that the match did not give more of a show when the Serb retired from the competition in the second set due to a pulled muscle in his right shoulder. The retirement of the three-time Wimbledon champion leaves Roger Federer, seeded third, hanging among the top seeds.
Seventh seed Marin Cilic of Serbia managed to overcome giant killer 16th seed Gilles Muller. Muller eliminated No. 4 seed Rafael Nadal in the round of 16. Roger Federer breezed through Canadian sixth seed Milos Raonic in a commanding three-set victory. The top Canadian player defeated Federer last year in the Wimbledon semifinals 2016 in five sets. The third seed Swiss had his sweet revenge when he displayed his tennis mastery against Raonic, reports the Evening Standard .
Men’s semi-finals matches will be between Roger Federer versus Tomas Berdych while the other bracket will see Sam Querrey trading shots and volleys against Marin Cilic.
The Women’s Open semifinals are complete with 14th seed Gabrine Muguruza thrashing 7th seed Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams disposing of Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia, Slovakian Madalena Rybarekova disposing of American Coco Vandeweghe, and British Johanna Konta eliminating Simona Halep of Romania.
Women’s semifinals round will be a face-off between sixth seed Johanna Konta and 10th seed Venus Williams. The other bracket will have 14th seed and 2015 Champion Gabrine Muguruza taking on Magdalena Rybarekova.
