Taken 3 had incredibly successful $40 million opening last weekend, and while the numbers aren’t as good as Taken 2 ‘s $49 million opening , it still proves that there is some life left in the franchise, despite what the critics have to say. The main question a lot of fans may have is if we can expect another film, and if so, can we expect Neeson to make a return as Bryan Mills?
“I said the second [ Taken film] wouldn’t happen,” Neeson said on The Graham Norton Show a couple weeks back (via Yahoo ). “And I said I wouldn’t do a third one if someone got taken. It’s insulting to an audience as well as me. It’s a good storyline and I’m the hunted instead of the hunter.”
So what are the chances that Neeson would be on board for fourth outing? In an interview with Fox411 , Neeson’s response is anything but negative.
“I think if audiences go and see it and they like these characters, I mean, I’d love to do something with Forest [Whitaker] again, and if it’s in a Taken 4 scenario… great.”
In an interview with MTV , Neeson and Whitaker even joked about starting out Taken 4 using a “deleted” scene from Taken 3 .
“He says ‘stay in touch,’ and what was cut out was I said, ‘look, I don’t have your email address,’ and he gives me it and I give him mine and we check and say, ‘did you get that, I got it, great,’ high five each other. That was cut out.”
“That’s actually the opening of the next one,” Whitaker added.
All joking aside, the studio executives at 20th Century Fox are undoubtedly rubbing their hands together after hearing about Neeson’s optimism, but only time will tell if there really will be another film featuring Bryan Mill’s “set of skills.” With all the advertising of Taken 3 being the final film of the franchise, would the filmmakers push on to another? Well, at the end of the day, money speaks louder than words, and anything that shows up on a movie poster usually has to be taken with a grain of salt, so anything is possible.
