Samsung Galaxy Gear Info Leaks Prior To Announcement

A picture of what appears to be a Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch has shown up along with a bunch of information regarding the specs of the device. VentureBeat reports that the Galaxy Gear will be similar in shape and size to other smart watches that have already come up such as the Pebble and MetaWatch.

VentureBeat was actually able to get some hands-on time with the device and detailed their thoughts on it in a recent article. According to the site, the Galaxy Gear smart watch will include a 4-megapixel camera in the strap, a WiFi radio, speakers, and a microphone.

Unfortunately, Samsung did not seem to put much effort into the batter life of the Galaxy Gear since it is only expected to last for 10 hours before a re-charge is necessary.

Voice commands can be received with the microphone and S Voice is also enabled on the device, allowing people to carry out various tasks without puling out their phone.

For the most part, the Galaxy Gear seems to do just about the same stuff as other smart watches have already begun to. It will connect wirelessly to a smartphone (Samsung phones primarily) and show text messages, emails, etc.

Actual pricing, availability, and a full feature list will be coming on Wednesday when Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Gear at an event in Berlin.

Just like Google Glass is a first step in the direction of creating useful “connected” glasses, it sounds like the Galaxy Gear will be the same for wearable technology. Unlike other companies that have had to scrap together enough money to produce their smart watches , Samsung has enough money to explore the market without worrying about losses too much.

What do you think? Is the Galaxy Gear going to offer anything special when compared to the Pebble or MetaWatch, and what would you be willing to pay for one?
