Joss Whedon Approved Of ‘Iron Man 3’ Ending, Says Writer

Although some fans had a negative reaction to the ending of Iron Man 3 , apparently Joss Whedon doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.

While promoting the upcoming release of Shane Black’s sequel on home video, co-writer Drew Pearce said the Avengers director approved of what they were doing with the film’s conclusion. If you haven’t seen Iron Man 3 yet, then you might want to proceed with caution.

According to Pearce, Whedon didn’t have a very big problem with Tony Stark removing the shard from his chest at the end of the flick. The hero may no longer require the Arc Reactor to get around, but that doesn’t mean he’s not the wise-cracking superhero everyone knows and loves.

“Although Joss isn’t part of the process, he saw all the cuts of the movie, so I’ve got to assume he knows exactly what he wants to do with Tony in [‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’] and how we’ve left [Tony Stark] is going to help that, not hinder it,” Pearce told the folks at Movieweb .

The screenwriter also addressed rumors that The Avengers: The Age of Ultron would focus on another group of superheroes. Pearce explained that the upcoming sequel would still center around the characters found in Joss Whedon’s 2012 summer blockbuster.

“There will, of course, be other characters in the mix, but I think Joss is really good at creating a family and then pulling them apart. So I suspect that the first [part] in that movie will be kicking the s*** out of those characters to see how they cope as a group,” he added.

If you missed Iron Man 3 in theaters, then you’ll soon have a chance to fix this problem. The flick is presently scheduled to arrive on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on September 24.
