‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Casting Picks Up Steam. Who Does The Studio Like?

The Fifty Shades Of Grey casting is picking up steam. That is welcome news to fans that have been waiting for what seems like an eternity. But who does the studio like for the main roles?

Reports suggest that a definitive announcement won’t happen for a couple of weeks when everyone at Universal and Focus Features returns to work from the long Labor Day holiday weekend.

Variety is reporting that a decision on who will play main characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in E.L. James’ adaptation of the novel hasn’t been made, but the studios are getting closer.

Sources tell the publication that the studio has shown interest in four actresses in the last few weeks: Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots, Shailene Woodley, and Dakota Johnson .

According to these sources there is no clear front runner, but these names have been repeatedly mentioned when it comes to possible Anastasia in Fifty Shades Of Grey.

As to who director Sam Taylor-Johnson and Universal are interested in for the much talked about Christian Grey role, Twitchfilm reported last week that Charlie Hunnam ( Sons Of Anarchy ) is a possible candidate.

The actor’s reps and the studio both deny that an offer had been made.

According to Variety an offer had been made to Hunnam, but he passed up on it. Now, the sources say that he might be reconsidering and is to meet with studio executives on Friday.

Other actors that the studio has met with, according to sources close to the project, are Christian Cooke ( Magic City) and Theo James( Divergent ), but they are now looking for an older actor, in his early thirties, instead of mid-to-late twenties as was the thought originally.

Universal and Focus Features have had no comment and the sources at the studio say no offer has been made.

Filming for Fifty Shades Of Grey starts in October for an August 1, 2014 release date and even though some may think the studios are taking too long to make a choice, producer Dana Brunetti said things are on track.

Brunetti also said that fans would be disappointed, no matter who they chose to play the main roles in Fifty Shades Of Grey, adding it’s impossible to make everyone happy.
