Nadya Suleman revealed on The Doctors that she no longer wanted to be known as “Octomom.” Nadya, 41, who is now going by the name Natalie, shot to fame in 2009 after welcoming octuplets through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Over seven years have passed since she gave birth to her octuplets . Suleman now hopes the public will view her as a “hard-working mom committed to raising healthy and happy children,” according to People .

Natalie Suleman disclosed to the Daily Mail that she is ashamed of the “dehumanizing and exploitative” work she did as a celebrity porn star and stripper to make ends meet. In a candid interview, Natalie said she was so displeased with herself that she ended up abusing the prescription drug Xanax , per the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

The 41-year-old believed she would have died of an overdose if she hadn’t quit that line of work and left her “Octomom” days behind. Suleman wants to set the record straight about her past and let everyone know her octuplets are thriving.

In an exclusive clip from an episode of The Doctors , Suleman reflected on her decision to pose nude . Natalie said she chose to enter the sex industry so she would not have to rely on government assistance, according to People .

“Rather than go get more public assistance, which I already felt ashamed of, I ended up selling myself out… At the time, it was like an investment so that I could support my family. I believe the judgment I experienced was warranted because what were people supposed to believe? All they were being fed by the media was negativity.”

Suleman said she began to hate her public persona and tried to move on. However, breaking away from “Octomom” was more difficult than she thought.

“There’s nobody, possibly, who could have hated ‘Octomom’ more than I.”

People reported that Suleman was unable to get away from her public persona, and this is why she has chosen to return to the public eye.

“My history was haunting us… I left ‘Octomom.’ I went back to my life as a counselor. I went back and my kids had a healthy, happy life. The problem is it’s followed us because people never knew what I did. They never knew the true story.”

Natalie then said to the Daily Mail that her prior actions have not affected her children.

“I own and take responsibility for my poor choices, but it certainly doesn’t take away from how extraordinary these kids ended up turning out to be.”

Suleman said she wanted a large family but did not expect one as large as the one she has, according to People .

“I never set out to become an ‘Octomom’… I’ve always wanted a big family – not this big!”

The controversial mother of 14 previously told the Daily Mail she was forced to “kill off” her “Octomom” persona.

“I want that horrible, despicable character ‘Octomom’ to be an example of what not to be… No one hates ‘Octomom’ as much as me.”

According to Perez Hilton , Suleman became “Octomom” due to her “young and dumb” actions of allowing doctors to implant twelve embryos against her better judgment.

“The reason he [the doctor] transplanted six is because in my reproductive history I always had six implanted and only one took. So I went in and he transferred six embryos but the doctor said my uterus had contracted heavily and there was a 99 percent chance that all the embryos were expelled. The doctor wrote up a document and said sign this and I’ll transfer the other six embryos that were left. I’m on the table under the influence of the cocktail of medication that they give you to make the transfer, so not in my lucid state of mind. I signed the paper which I didn’t read like an idiot, and it said if more than one or two take I go to a perinatologist and do selective reduction. I didn’t read that and there was no way I would do it as I don’t believe in abortion. So later I found out it could be triplets because my HCG hormone level was so high. I was freaking out but I continued on with the pregnancy. When I was at 17 weeks they found seven embryos and I almost had a nervous breakdown. I only tried to have one more – like an idiot. I was young and dumb. I just thought I’d give them one more sibling.”

This episode of The Doctors is set to air on Tuesday and will feature Natalie, the mother of Elijiah, Amerah, Joshua, Aiden, and twins Calyssa and Caleb in addition to octuplets Jonah, Nariah, Josiah, Maliah, Isaiah, Noah, Jeremiah, and Makai.
