‘WWE Hell In A Cell 2016’ Results: Charlotte Defeats Sasha Banks In Main Event

Published on: October 29, 2016 at 2:34 PM

WWE had three Hell in a Cell Matches booked for Sunday’s Raw -exclusive event, and all three of the matches were “first-ever” happenings in one way or another. Additionally, every title from the red brand was on the line at Hell in a Cell 2016 , on the Halloween-weekend card that included eight matches. With the obvious exceptions of part-timer Brock Lesnar and the injured Finn Balor, all of Monday Night Raw’s top WWE Superstars were a part of this year’s event, which aired live from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

WWE Hell In A Cell 2016 Preview

Promoting the show as having a “Triple Main Event,” the match that Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley have devoted the most time to is Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte for the Raw Women’s Championship. After more than 30 Hell in a Cell Matches in WWE’s history since 1997, this will be the first time that two women have competed inside the ominous steel structure. This will be at least the third time that The Boss has been in a ground-breaking match for the women of WWE. Previously, Sasha and Bayley were the first two female competitors to headline a WWE PPV ( NXT TakeOver: Respect ) as part of the first-ever 30-Minute Iron Woman Match. Sasha and Charlotte also headlined WWE Raw recently, the first time that had happened since Trish Stratus vs. Lita in 2004.

If Sasha vs. Charlotte doesn’t close out the show, then it seems likely that Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship will. This will be the first time the Universal Championship has been defended inside of the Cell and the first time Kevin Owens will ever be inside of it. Two years ago, Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose inside Hell in a Cell. The third HIAC Match for the show will be Roman Reigns vs. Rusev. This will be the first time the WWE United States Championship has been defended in the Cell and the first time that Rusev has competed inside the super-cage. Last year, Roman Reigns defeated Bray Wyatt inside the Cell.

The New Day will put their historic title reign on the line (they will reach day 430 at Hell in a Cell ) as they defend the Raw Tag Team Championship against Cesaro and Sheamus. Highlighting Raw’s Cruiserweight Division, champion TJ Perkins puts his title on the line one more time against Brian Kendrick. The Tag Team, Cruiserweight, and Women’s Divisions will all have an additional, non-title match at HIAC . Enzo and Big Cass face off against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, while Bayley faces Dana Brooke one-on-one. On the Kickoff Show , a Six-Man Tag Team Match will air, featuring Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado, and Sin Cara vs. Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, and Ariya Daivari.

Hell In A Cell 2016 Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 on October 30. HIAC aired live from the TD Garden in Boston.

Hell In A Cell Kickoff Show On The WWE Network

The hour-long pre-show was hosted by Renee Young, with a panel featuring Lita, Booker T, and Jerry Lawler. Their first guest was Bayley, who talked about her grudge match against Dana Brooke and being a role model for youngsters in the WWE Universe. The Six-Man Cruiserweight Tag Team Match also aired during the Kickoff Show .

Before the panel previewed the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match, a backstage segment aired in which Brian Kendrick once again tried to convince TJ Perkins to simply let him win the match because of their storied friendship over the years. The panel was also joined by Rich Swann, another member of Monday Night Raw ‘s Cruiserweight Division, who gave his two cents on Kendrick’s new attitude. Just before the Kickoff Show ended, The New Day joined Todd Phillips in the social media lounge to answer Twitter questions from the WWE Universe.

Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado and Sin Cara defeated Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, and Ariya Daivari

In the first match of the night, the Cruiserweight Division was on display as Cedric Alexander got the pinfall for his team. With Rich Swann getting a victory over No. 1 contender Brian Kendrick on Monday Night Raw , who gets the next shot at the title is anyone’s guess.

Roman Reigns defeated Rusev and retained the WWE United States Championship

The PPV officially kicked-off with the first of three Hell in a Cell Matches, as Roman Reigns successfully defended the US Title in a brutal match against former champion Rusev. Even after Rusev had The Accolade locked in with a chain on top of steel stairs in the middle of the ring, The Big Dog refused to give up and eventually got the pinfall after spearing the Bulgarian Brute off of the aforementioned stairs.

Bayley defeated Dana Brooke

After trading victories over each recently on Monday Night Raw , Bayley won the rubber match against Dana Brooke. With only five spots available for the Raw Women’s Team at this year’s Survivor Series , a PPV win certainly looks good for Bayley.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady

Enzo and Big Cass did what they do as well as anyone else in the business right now: delivered a really solid pre-match promo that got the crowd hyped for their match. Unfortunately for them, Gallows and Anderson made relatively short work of Amore and Cassady. One has to believe this puts the The Club in the running for a spot on the Raw Tag Team Elimination Match at the Survivor Series in November.

Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins with help from Chris Jericho

After the WWE Universal Champion sprayed the referee in the face with a fire extinguisher, Chris Jericho took advantage of the open door and locked himself inside the cell as the referee was being attended to. Eventually, the double-teaming from Jeri-KO was too much for Seth Rollins to overcome. After power-bombing Owens through two tables at ringside, it was a power-bomb through two chairs in the middle of the ring that finally put Rollins down for the three-count.

Brian Kendrick defeated TJ Perkins and became the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion

Kendrick feigned an injury in the middle of the match to put a stop to any momentum the champion was building. After an arguably cheap headbutt, Brian Kendrick locked TJ Perkins in a submission hold and the champ tapped. The third title match of the night was the first that resulted in a new champion.

The New Day retained the Raw Tag Team Championship by disqualification

While Cesaro had Xavier Woods in an ankle lock, Sheamus took Francesca II from Big E and hit him with it. After turning his attention towards Kofi Kingston — who wasn’t officially in the match — Sheamus was met with a kick that the referee happened to see, rather than Woods tapping out in the ring. Sheamus and Cesaro were victorious, but because it came via disqualification, The New Day retained the tag titles.

Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks inside Hell in a Cell to win the Raw Women’s Championship in the Main Event

Sasha Banks and Charlotte broke ground in several ways when they faced each other in a Hell in a Cell Match for the Raw Women’s Championship in the final match at the Hell in a Cell PPV. After several high points in the match, the end came somewhat abruptly and anticlimactically with a Natural Selection, playing up the struggles that Sasha Banks has had with her back. Earlier in the match, somewhat reminiscent of the infamous Undertaker vs. Mankind match, Sasha Banks returned to the ring after being carried away on a stretcher.

Raw Talk on the WWE Network

Apparently taking a cue from the blue brand’s Talking Smack , Renee Young was joined by the panel from the Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show for a post-show round-up. Roman Reigns was the first guest to join them (replacing Lita), as he talked about defeating Rusev and who his next opponent might be. New Cruiserweight Champion Brian Kendrick stopped by and took issue with Booker T, and Bayley came on being as optimistic as always after her big win over Dana Brooke. They were also joined by WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens and his best friend Chris Jericho.

The above Hell in a Cell results will be corroborated by WWE’s official Hell in a Cell 2016 page .
