Rapper Nicki Minaj is back on mainstream. After laying low for about two years, Nicki Minaj is ready to tell the “frauds” that she is still the queen of hip hop.
Last month, Nicki Minaj has launched the official video for her new single “No Fraud.” Though there was another ruckus with her collaboration with Katy Perry whose efforts to run up to the top charts seem to be failing, her song with Jason Deruo and Ty Dolla $ign is more successful with more than 213 million views now on YouTube.
Minaj’s return to the music stream has also been criticized. According to NME , Remy Ma dissed her new track because it was said to be insensitive of the attack that happened in London last month. Minaj’s video featured the Westminster Bridge, and the other shots were also in London.
However, Nicki Minaj is not threatened by Remy Ma, who had explicitly released a track attacking the rapper. Ma’s featured lyrics in “shETHER” says “F**k Nicki Minaj” at the very beginning. In the music video, Ma also showed a blood-spattered Barbie with pink hair, which was Nicki Minaj’s popular look.
In “No Frauds , “ Nicki Minaj seemed to be hinting again at Remy Ma, according to Billboard .
“I don’t need no, frauds/ I don’t need no, drama when you call/ I don’t need no, fake/ Soon as I wake up keep an eye out for the snakes, yeah”
Minaj also hinted that Remy Ma tried to “drop ‘Another One’” but since she already “exposed your Ghostwriter,” she could not go back to doing sensible songs.
This is not the first time Nicki Minaj has dissed another female rapper, claiming they were using ghostwriters in their songs.
Rap is one of the most criticized musical genres since most of the songs in rap music were composed by the rappers themselves. That is why Iggy Azalea was thrown under the bus when Nicki Minaj started spewing phrases at Azalea’s rapping skills years ago.
As for Nicki Minaj’s relationship with colleague Drake, the tension has subsided. Ever since Minaj went out with ex-boyfriend Meek Mill, the two have been clashing online. That time, Mill was the one claiming Drake used a ghostwriter for his new album.
This January, Minaj finally clarified that she is, indeed, separated from Mill. In one of her tweets, she said that she is currently focusing on her work and “looking forward to sharing it with you guys really soon.”
Minaj and Drake have had multiple successful collaborations including “Moment 4 Life” and “Truffle Butter.”
Lastly, even though “Swish, Swish,” Minaj’s collaboration with Katy Perry, received a lot of backlash, their fans are praising the message of the song.
One user said that this could be Minaj’s best collaboration of the year. Perry fans said the new single will be their new “Dark Horse . ”
According to TIME , the single is one “feisty hip-hop track that lets both artists show off their respective areas of expertise, starting with a melodic Perry intro and then segueing into a club-ready beat over which Minaj handily spits some flow.”
The song is reportedly aimed at Perry and Minaj’s enemies in the entertainment industry. Perry was said to be targeting Taylor Swift, but some of Swift’s fans noted that the song was not good enough.
This is the first time the two have sung together, but they were often seen being friendly with each other. Because of the tandem focused on revenge songs, there might be another one coming up in collaboration with Calvin Harris. So far, the internet is having a blast with their songs.
