Looking for a great Sci Fi film? Well, you may have to settle for repeat viewings of Looper . One of the most highly anticipated films, Elysium starring Matt Damon in a poverty stricken/pollution embroiled earth has been pushed back by Sony Pictures to August 9. It’s initial release was set for March 1, 2013, but now it looks like Sony Pictures wants a repeat of their successful opening they garnered with District 9 , which was also released in August.
The original spot for the August 9 release date originally belonged to MGM’s RoboCop which has now been moved to February 7, 2014 in order to make room for Elysium . The film, which stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster shot on a $120 million dollar budget, and is said to take place in a space station called Elysium in the year 2159. In this era two classes of people have survived, the wealthy who live on Elysium and the every day citizen who resides on the ruined Earth.
Acting as a talk piece for our current political affairs, actress Jodie Foster will play Secretary Rhodes who is stopping at nothing to make sure anti-immigration laws are preserved for the class of people at Elysium. Damon is a blue collared ex-con man who will take on the task of bringing equality to the two worlds while also trying to save his own life.
This film will be director Neill Blomkamp’s second feature film. His first was the successful District 9 , which has obviously made Sony Pictures take notice in the potential of his upcoming film by giving Elysium a prime slot.
Will you see Matt Damon and Jodie Foster in Elysium?
