‘Blacklist’ Spin-Off, ‘MacGyver’ Reboot, ‘Lethal Weapon’ And Other Film-Based Series Slated For Fall Lineup [Video]

While many are waiting for their favorite TV series to return in the fall, there are a lot of new series up on the block, including NBC’s new Blacklist spin-off , The Blacklist: Redemption , CBS’s MacGyver reboot, and Fox’s Lethal Weapon, based on the film franchise, according to TV Guide . There are a few other series coming this fall that are based on films as well – The Exorcist is coming to Fox, Frequency is a new CW series, NBC’s Taken , ABC’s Time After Time , and CBS’s Training Day . NBC is also scheduling Emerald City , which is based on The Wizard of Oz , but is an “edgier” version.

Fox is also bringing back a new version of 24, called 24: Legacy , and rebooting Prison Break , which will pick up after the 2009 finale. All of the previous series really don’t need much elaboration unless you haven’t seen the previous series or the movies, except for the Blacklist spin-off. In the spin-off, a lot of illegal activities are most likely going to take place, since Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) will be teaming up with his mother, Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen) who is the head of Grey Matters. Scottie’s team is a very covert mercenary task force that takes care of things the government won’t.

Other new series coming to ABC:

  • American Housewife – about a single mom (Katie Mixon) raising her family in a town full of “perfect” families.
  • Conviction – about a presidential daughter (Hayley Atwell) who is being blackmailed.
  • Designated Survivor – which is about a cabinet member (Keifer Sutherland) who becomes president after an attack on Washington.
  • Downward Dog – starring Allison Tolmam, a story that is told from the viewpoint of Tolman’s character’s dog.
  • Imaginary Mary – Jenna Elfman is returning to TV as a woman who starts interacting with her imaginary child-hood friend after meeting the love of her life.
  • Notorious – starring Piper Perabo, is a drama about the 24-hour news cycle and the relationship between the media and criminal law.
  • Speechless – Minnie Driver is a mother of three children, one of them is a special needs child.
  • Still Star-Crossed – a Shondaland drama based on the families of Romeo and Juliet, after they died.

Other new series coming to CBS:

  • Bull – NCIS alumni Michael Weatherly stars as Dr. Phil in this show about his early career as a trial consultant.
  • Doubt – starring Katherine Heigl as a defense attorney who falls for her client, who could be guilty of a horrible crime.
  • The Great Indoors – Joel McHale stars as an adventure reporter who gets a job as manager of the digital department of a magazine.
  • Kevin Can Wait – Kevin James (King of Queens) is also returning to TV as a retired cop.
  • Man With A Plan – Another sitcom alum, Matt LeBlanc, plays a stay-at-home dad with the worst kids.
  • Pure Genius – Dermot Mulroney plays a surgeon with a shaky past who heads a hospital that employs risky new procedures.

Other new series coming to The CW:

  • No Tomorrow – Tori Anderson and Josh Sasse star in a comedy about a couple who try to fulfill their bucket lists.
  • Riverdale – yes this series is based on the Archie Comics characters, but will probably not be as wholesome as the comics version. Luke Perry is among cast members.

Other new series coming to Fox:

  • APB – a billionaire (Justin Kirk) takes over the Chicago Police Department in order to fix corruption and cover-ups within the department.
  • Making History – three friends travel through time while dealing with the present.
  • The Mick – Kaitlin Olson stars as “an irresponsible hustler” who has to raise her rich sister’s bratty kids.
  • Pitch – about the first woman (Kylie Bunbury) to play in the MLB as a pitcher for the San Diego Padres.
  • Shots Fired – an investigator (Sanaa Lathan) works with a special prosecutor to examine the aftermath of racially charged police shootings in a Tennessee town.
  • Son of Zorn – a live-action/animated comedy about an alien (Jason Sudeikis) who returns to Earth to reconnect with his human son (Johnny Pemberton).
  • Star – three young singers try to make it big in the music industry – starring Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt.

Other new series coming to NBC:

  • Chicago Justice – new Chicago franchise series by Dick Wolf, starring Philip Winchester and Carl Weathers.
  • The Good Place – Kristen Bell gets a chance to start over with the help of Ted Danson.
  • Great News – a news producer’s (Briga Heelan) mom (Andrea Martin) gets an intern job at her TV station.
  • Marlon – based on the life of Marlon Wayans, starring Wayans as himself.
  • Midnight, Texas – based on book trilogy by True Blood author Charlaine Harris.
  • Powerless – about insurance adjusters who help people cover damages caused by superheroes, starring Vanessa Hudgens.
  • This Is Us – ensemble cast including Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia in this dramedy about a group of people sharing the same birthday.
  • Timeless – another time-travel series starring Abigail Spencer and Matt Lanter.
  • Trial and Error – John Lithgow stars in this comedy about a New York lawyer (Nicholas D’Agosto) who goes to a southern town to defend a quirky professor (Lithgow) accused of killing his wife.

That is all that TV Guide has showing for now, but from the looks of it, there are some great looking series coming up to check out! Some shows begin in September, others will start during midseason in January – you can view the schedule here.
