Hype for YG Entertainment’s new K-pop girl group, Black Pink, has grown over the past year. Starting with YG Entertainment systematically releasing teaser images of each of the K-pop girl group’s four members, Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé, they changed direction with more group photo teasers. Afterward, the K-pop community, who were now highly-anticipating Black Pink’s debut, believed said debut would happen sometime within the summer season. Eventually, the season passed, and Black Pink still did not make their debut resulting in fan theories that YG Entertainment was purposely holding back their debut for SM Entertainment’s Red Velvet .
Now there are reports that YG Entertainment has revealed an official date for Black Pink’s debut through teaser images. According to said reports, Black Pink will finally debut on August 8.
The first teaser image, attached above, showcases Rosélooking seductive, yet strong, in white while wearing a denim jacket, as reported by AllKpop. The image provides the following date and time, August 8, 2016 at 8 p.m. KST, as when they will debut.
Previously, YG Entertainment was debating on two different dates for Black Pink’s debut, August 1 or August 8. The latter date was most-likely chosen so they can have more time to finalize any details to make Black Pink’s debut spectacular. Also, the date fits well with the time too, as it will be on the 8th at 8 p.m. Nevertheless, YG Entertainment is set on it and released another image teaser , one that shows the hands of all four members touching each other at their pointing and pinkie fingers to form a star (possibly an impromptu rose), as reported by KpopStarz .
The K-pop community has waited for so long to see what Black Pink will bring to the K-pop landscape. It should be noted that Black Pink’s debut is highly-anticipated because it has been seven years since YG Entertainment formed a K-pop girl group. At that time, CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy were grouped together to form 2NE1, YG Entertainment’s answer to SM Entertainment’s So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD), better known as Girls’ Generation. 2NE1 delivered on their part, earning the honor of having the most views for the music video of a debut song by a K-pop girl group, in which theirs was the space version of “Fire.” They would hold onto that title for six years until they were dethroned by Twice with their debut song “Like OHH-AHH.”
Black Pink is YG Entertainment’s second generation K-pop girl group in which they more than likely compete against SM Entertainment’s Red Velvet and JYP Entertainment’s Twice.
Ergo, K-pop fans are curious to see what Black Pink’s upcoming concept, sound, and style will be. True the numerous teasers give K-pop fans hints on what it would be, but to be frank, it is not enough. One foreshadowing of how Black Pink will be once they make their debut is through a dance practice video they uploaded on their official YouTube channel . The dance, which is choreographed by Parris Goebel, is performed to a remix of “B***h Better Have My Money” by Rihanna. Needless to say but Black Pink’s dancing is probably the fiercest seen among any K-pop girl groups. Also, their group’s name can be a foreshadow of how they will be. Pink represents the “prettiest color,” but black shows the four members are more than what meets the eye.
We are less than one week until Black Pink makes their debut and we cannot wait. Until then, many K-pop fans are pondering if Black Pink will make their debut on Inkigayo , Music Bank , Show! Music Core , M! Countdown , Show Champion , or The Show .
