In writing about everything from motherhood to date rape, Amber Tamblyn ( 127 Hours, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants ) penned a personal and emotional essay and, among the many revelations shared by the actress, she revealed some surprising news. Tamblyn revealed that she and husband David Cross are expecting their first baby. While Amber detailed much about her life experiences, sharing some of her darkest moments and some of her brightest triumphs, the actress’ pregnancy reveal was perhaps the most noteworthy detail of the essay, simply for the fact that it marks the beginning of a new chapter in the life of Amber Tamblyn.
Amber Tamblyn Reveals A New Addition Is On The Way
E! News shares the happy news that Tamblyn and David are expecting their first child, sharing just how Amber shared the news in a recent essay. Amber begins by discussing the topic of motherhood in a more general sense, confessing that the seemingly random train of thought had captured her attention rather often in recent weeks. At first, Ms. Tamblyn seems to only vaguely draw the conclusion she hopes readers will infer.
“I’ve been thinking about motherhood a lot lately,” writes The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star. “What it means to be one, what it means to have one, what it means to know one, what it means to make decisions as one and have conversations as one.”
Feeling more comfortable with her writing, Amber seems to make the decision to jump right in and reveal the exciting news of a new addition to the family 33-year-old Tamblyn has started with the 52-year-old actor, David Cross.
“Motherhood has been heavily on my mind because I am going to be a mother soon,” continues Tamblyn. “I’m pregnant, with a daughter on the way.”
Amber writes that she recognizes there is much to be done to change the world into which her daughter is to be born, adding that, as an expectant mother, she feels a responsibility to change the ways in which women are treated and how they are regarded in both words and actions.
Inside Amy Schumer ‘s Amber Tamblyn Opens Up About Her Own Past Sexual Assault
In the essay written for Glamour , Ms. Tamblyn refers to her recent Instagram post in which she discusses having been sexually assaulted by a former boyfriend. The confession was made on the eve of the third presidential debate and reveals the passionate stance Amber takes against Donald Trump’s recovered remarks about women. Following that posting, Amber called her mother to tell her about the incident, feeling that she would rather have her mother hear it from her own lips, rather than read about it online.
Tamblyn reveals that, in turn, her mother had a similar story, one which she also shared. In much the same way that Amber went to her mother, her mother went to Tamblyn’s grandmother, but the eldest of the women did not respond to her daughter with the understanding and compassion with which Amber’s mother shared with her own daughter.
“Boys will be boys. You just have to be really careful around them,” was what Amber’s Grandmother said to her mother.
Ms. Tamblyn recognizes that this is just one example of the ideals that have been passed down through generations, seeking to cling to a way of life that leaves men in positions of power. After all, as such sentiments dictate, the men know better, and women are just along for the ride. Amber seeks to change that outdated mentality and hopes to see a new dawn come about, before her own daughter grows into her teens and on into adulthood.
“This is what has passed for wisdom, what’s been handed down between women for generations…It tells us to shush, to not make a fuss, to accept the world as it was built for us. It tells us we shouldn’t ask for more than what we are given, from dollar bills to the Bill of Rights,” writes Ms. Tamblyn. “Boys will be boys and girls will be, what? Quiet. Hungry. Subservient. Game.”
