Game Of Thrones writer and producer, David Benioff, has been discussing the show’s future revealing that they could encounter some problems as they catch up to George R.R. Martin’s novels.
Game Of Thrones continues to enthral viewers with its heartbreaking and pulsating content, and last week’s Red Wedding episode has already been deemed a classic.
However, with the series going from strength to strength, David Benioff, one of the show’s writers has revealed his concerns that they might catch up with Martin’s novels.
Currently, Game Of Thrones is two-thirds of the way through the third book, Ice And Fire , and they still have two novels, A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons , to adapt. Martin is currently working on The Winds Of Winter , the sixth book in the series, as well as the seventh and possibly final instalment, A Dream Of Spring.
Benioff told Entertainment Weekly of his dilemma, “There is a ticking clock here. We can’t wait too long because of the kids. We have this wonderful cast, but we don’t have an infinite amount of time…We don’t want to become a show that outstays its welcome and tries to turn each book into three seasons.”
He then added, “Part of what we love about these books and the show is this sense of momentum and building toward something. If we tried to turn this into a 10-season show we’d strangle the golden goose.”
Meanwhile, the books’ author, George R.R. Martin, has also discussed the chances that the TV series could overlap his work, but he doesn’t think it will be a problem.
Martin stated, “I think the odds against that happening are very long. I still have a lead of several gigantic books. If they include everything in the books, I don’t think they’re going to catch up with me. If they do, we’ll have some interesting discussions.”
