As the adage goes, kids say the darndest things. In the case of this Pennsylvania family, it’s what was whispered that ended up being so important. The Associated Press and ABC report that a child’s whispers on a 911 call it led to an arrest. The chlid whispered “Help us” and hung up early Sunday morning.
The call was dispatched to Coopersburg (PA) Police, who arrived to find Miguel Espada, 48, alone in an upstairs bedroom. Police saw him put a knife down, lock the front door and flee the kitchen to that bedroom. He was in there for about an hour before authorities came in with a K-9 unit and took him.
The victim, Melissa Amey, got into an argument with Espada. In the argument, he verbally and physically threatened her. Espada said he would kill Amey numerous times, and said that he hated her children as well. He held a dart to her throat during the incident.
She tried to leave once, but Espada pulled her back her by the hair, according to The Easton (PA) Express-Times. Amey was later located at a nearby convenience store with her children. Although Espada lives at the house, there was no information available to specify Amey and Espada’s relationship.
Espada was charged with two counts of simple assault and possession of an instrument of a crime. Other charges included reckless endangerment, making terroristic threats and harassment. Espada was arraigned and held on $75,000 bail
No information was made available of which of Amey’s children whispered on the 911 call. The child is truly a hero.
It seems that 911 calls have garnered a bit of spotlight recently. The Inquisitr reported on a Washington dispatcher helping a bride in distress on her wedding day. Also, a power outage during popular TV show Breaking Bad caused a Norwalk, CT man to place numerous 911 calls.
