Yosemite Park Junior Ranger Writes Letter, Returns Sticks

Yosemite National Park, like all national parks, has certain policies in place to make sure that the park remains beautiful. Yosemite asks hikers and climbers and campers not to leave garbage in the park, not to light fires in non-designate areas, and, above all else, don’t steal sticks from the forest floor.

A junior ranger recently violated this rule and smuggled out two two small sticks.

The junior ranger would have gotten away with her crime too but a few days after her visit to Yosemite her terrible deed began to weigh on her conscience. The little girl eventually cracked under the guilt and decided that her best option was to confess and return the sticks to Yosemite National Park.

The girl writes:

“Dear Park Rangers, I am a Yosemite Junior ranger. I went to Yosemite recently and accidentally brought home two sticks. I know I’m not supposed to take things from the park, so I am sending them back. Please put them in nature. Thank you, Evie.”

Here’s the photo of her note.

The letter was posted on Reddit by user Best Matt Ever. And the Reddit user, a park ranger, is living up to his name.

Matt has been in contact with Evie’s parents via email, and he has decided to give Evie a little treat. He’s going to take pictures of the sticks at various places around the park. He’ll then let Evie decide where the sticks should make their return to nature.

The Best Matt Ever writes: “Reading all the responses below, I wanted to let you know what I decided: I’m going to take photos of the sticks in various places in the park, then send Evie the pictures and ask her which spot she wants the sticks in. (I’ve already been in touch with her parents by email, so this should actually be pretty easy to do.)”

What do you think of the little girl’s Yosemite letter.
