Governor Bobby Jindal had harsh words for his Republican party, even going so far as to say, “We must stop being the stupid party.”
Jindal spoke during the Republican National Conmmittee’s Winter Meeting on Thursday evening. The Louisiana Governor had a long speech during the event, in which he chastised and encouraged the GOP.
CNN reports that Jindal added, “We must stop looking backward … We must stop insulting the intelligence of voters.”
He also notably touched on Mitt Romney’s 47 percent comment, which the former Republican presidential nominee made during a private fundraiser last year. Jindal stated:
“We must compete for every single vote: the 47 percent and the 53 percent and any other combination of numbers that adds up to 100 percent.”
It is not the first time Bobby Jindal has given a speech meant to rouse the Republican party after a bitter presidential election defeat. Yahoo! News notes that Jindal’s 2009 speech was essentially the Governor speaking awkwardly into a single camera. Some people responded by calling the speech a career killer.
But Jindal seized the opportunity in 2013 to redeem himself. With Mitt Romney out of the picture and the Republican Party lacking a national leader, Jindal has attempted to make himself that new leader. Jindal gave his 25-minutes speech, in which he rebutted Obama’s defense earlier this week. He also offered a counter-philosophy for Republicans. He added:
“We’ve got to stop being the stupid party. It’s time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults. We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive and bizarre comments. I’m here to say we’ve had enough of that.”
Bobby Jindal’s speech has been recognized as a good argument against the president’s liberal inauguration speech, as well as a possible redemption. Do you think Jindal’s speech will challenge the Republican party?
