Pretty Little Liars is one of the most popular television shows, and it is set to debut its brand new season this coming week on ABC Family. Last season saw the girls Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Aria (Lucy Hale) and their nemesis Mona (Janel Parrish) pulled out of a burning house by a mysterious savior, which a few of the girls recognized as the dead, former Queen Bee Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse).
The finale to last season saw all the ladies gasping in surprise in the end. It was quite the cliffhanger, and many questions were left unanswered, but, in a recent interview, executive producer Marlene King told TV Guide that they will all be answered starting with the first episode.
King answered some questions about the new season stating that this is the season of answers. She said that fans have been very patient with the show and all its cliffhangers but that the premiere sets the tone for the rest of season four and far as giving the audience answers they have been waiting for.
King added that, this time around, Mona is working undercover and that changes things up in a fun and dynamic way. “Mona has (a lot of) answers and now she needs the Pretty Little Liars as much as they need her, so now she uses her knowledge as a bargaining chip to ingratiate herself back with them.”
As far as Allison is concerned and whether she is alive or not, King says that will be addressed in the premiere, but viewers won’t find out the answer to that question in the season opener.
There will also be some more insight into Toby’s sad past. We will get to meet his Mom, in a flashback, during the premiere. Some hints are dropped about trouble with that character; she dies when he is a young teen, fourteen or fifteen. Some insinuations of a mysterious death are put forth.
Spencer and Toby are back together and somehow she is able to put behind what he did to her. But A is not done with Toby and wants him to make a delivery so he can give him something in return. As the season moves on we will see if the relationship can survive all the secrecy.
King promises, “We’ve got a lot great new characters coming into Rosewood with answers, information, secrets, and we’re really most excited about giving the fans answers. It’s really exciting to know that people are going to finally realize if their theories were correct.”
Pretty Little Liars opens on Tuesday, June 11 at 8/7c on ABC Family.
