Yeah, that’s right: virtual. As in, not real .
This is the story of one Buzz “Erik” Lightyear, who has just shelled out $330,000 for the Crystal Palace Space Station on Planet Calypso (pictured above), as featured in the Entropia Universe massively multiplayer online role playing game.
That, unsurprisingly, is a world record for the price of a virtual item, though paying for a bunch of polygons that exist on some company’s server may not be as stupid as it first sounds. Apparently, the station will provide an income stream of revenue from any purchases made there, while there are fees for gamers who wish to “hunt” in the same virtual space.
