Keanu Reeves has been flying under the radar for a few years but he is back in a big way in 2013.

Disbelievers can check out the trailer for 47 Ronin to see Keanu doing what Keanu does best: making huge, ridiculous movies that entertain us.

Perhaps known best for his role as Neo in The Matrix franchise, Reeves has not been linked to a project of its magnitude since 2008’s The Day The Earth Stood Still . Prior to his break from big movies—he’s starred in Generation Um… , Henry’s Crime , and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee recently—Keanu was putting out a steady stream of blockbusters. There was 2006’s rotoscoped A Scanner Darkly , an adaptation of the sci-fi novel by Philip K. Dick. Before that, Reeves starred in 2005’s sci-fi/horror thriller Constantine, The Matrix franchise, The Devil’s Advocate , Johnny Mnemonic … The list goes on.

Equally skilled as a character actor or leading man, Keanu brings a level of experience in action choreography that martial arts directors must love, hence his casting in 47 Ronin . Reeves stars as Kai in the film, which is based on an actual historical event in 18th century Japan .

In the movie, Reeves leads a group of ronin—samurai without a master—in revenge against the powerful warlord who killed their master and banished the group. The trailer shows this will be as big of a movie as any of Keanu’s career. Tons of ridiculous effects and bombastic action, the kind of delicious popcorn flick we’ve grown accustomed to from Reeves.

But 47 Ronin isn’t the only trick Keanu Reeves has up his sleeves this year. While 47 Ronin ‘s December 25 release date serves as an awesome gift, Christmas will come early for Reeves fans when his directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi , hits theaters November 1. As The Inquisitr reported , it recently received a new poster. In the film, Keanu plays Donaka Mark, leader of an underworld fight club. It’s a different vehicle than 47 Ronin but shows some promise. The Wrap called Man of Tai Chi “fun and exciting enough to keep audiences truly entertained,” in reviewing the film. Check out the trailer here.

2013 seems to be the year of Keanu, in which Reeves returns to doing what he does best. What do you think of these upcoming Keanu Reeves projects?
