Leicester Square is “full to capacity” with One Direction fans. The boy band’s film, This Is Us, is set to premier this evening. Thousands of fans have waited days to see the premier, or catch a glimpse of the band.
One Direction formed when the young men met on The X Factor . Their debut album, Up All Night, hit number one on the charts in 15 countries. They are the first British group to reach number one on the Billboard chart with a debut album.
As reported by Billboard, Morgan Spurlock directed the highly anticipated film.This Is Us is described as “part concert movie, part behind-the-scenes documentary.”
Spurlock’s 3-D film will give fans a more personal look at the boys behind the band. The film follows Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall and Zayn as they tour around the world. The film includes candid interviews with the band members, their friends, and family.
Spurlock spent a lot of time with the band during filming. He appreciates their talent and their personalities:
“These boys are so charming and so fantastic, I challenge you to go to the movie and not like them after the film is done… Part of the reason they’ve been so incredibly successful with their fans is that they are so incredibly grounded and normal, and that’s what comes off in the movie.”
One Direction has built a worldwide fan base. The crowd at Leicester Square underlines the fans’ dedication to the band.
London authorities have made safety a priority in the square. The event staff is working with the Metropolitan Police and Westminster City Council to maintain order in the huge crowd.
Signs have been posted, warning fans that Leicester Square is filled to capacity and closed. As reported by The Mirror, fans are encouraged to watch the event from home via live streaming.
