Christopher Nolan has been singing the praises of fellow director Zack Snyder.
Synder ( 300 , Watchmen ) is, of course, helming Warner Bros.’ upcoming Man of Steel , for which Nolan wears a co-producer’s hat.
The powerhouse behind the celebrated rebooted Batman Trilogy , Inception , Memento , and Insomnia — to name just a few — many are eager to see how Nolan’s touch will impact Snyder and scriptwriter, David S. Goyer’s, vision.
So it’s interesting to hear Nolan’s take on how that process is going. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter , Nolan said of Snyder:
“Zack was the perfect man to take this on; he is unbelievably skilled at creating a coherent, cohesive world.”
He added:
“In my honest appraisal, taking on Superman and creating that world is far more difficult than creating the world of the Dark Knight . He has a lot of finishing to do on the movie — it has a very long post-production schedule because, unlike Batman , Superman flies.”
On track for a June 14, 2013 debut, Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as the titular hero, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams playing Lois Lane, Russell Crowe playing Jor-El, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.
Previously underwhelming teasers were swept away with the December 11 release of the first trailer for Man of Stee l. A seriously toned take on the original origins story of Superman, reaction to it was almost universally rapturous.
Perhaps that’s why Nolan said of Snyder:
“I actually feel guilty talking about it because I’m sitting here having nothing to do to it. I try to be as supportive as I can, and I’m just amazed by what he is doing. It’s not something I would know how to do.”
High praise coming from a director whose last effort The Dark Knight Rises placed in a number of Best of 2012 film lists and could well be nominated for an Oscar in 2013.
