Alexander Skarsgard fans had the double shock of a lifetime during last night’s True Blood finale… and if you didn’t see it, quit reading! Spoilers ahead! Naked spoilers!
For fans of both Eric Northman and Alexander Skarsgard, the ep was a true double edged sword in some of the most basic ways. On one hand, we saw the vivacious viking take it all off to read a book in the sun in Sweden’s snowcapped mountains, which I think we can all agree was the most glorious moment in television history. (We laughed, we cried, it was better than Cats!)
But.
On the other hand (spoilers here, spoilers here!), the delightful surprise nudity of Alexander Skarsgard was a cinematic tour de force — and it came during the most stressful Eric scene of all time, ever. (And this is coming from someone who is boycotting the last book Misery Chastain style.)
As the season finale drew to a close, Bill Compton and Andy Bellefleur teamed up with Andy’s surviving fae daughter to yank Sookie back from Warlow’s abusive clutches and save the day. After a tense battle and a last minute assist from grandpa Niall, Sookie’s freedom was saved and Warlow became a glittering puddle of blood.
With that, all the vamps previously spared by the daywalking ability conferred by the vamp/faerie hybrid blood were stripped of their newfound temporary power. As night had fallen, it mattered little to most… but Eric, bereft at the loss of Nora to Hep V, fled to Sweden for some naked me time and didn’t get the memo — at least until the smoke started coming from every part of his body.
As all the plotlines wrapped, we were left with Alexander Skarsgard and his dangle hopping around in the sun as he caught fire in the glare, with no hint of a savior swooping in to cover him with snow or something.
We know that Pam had left to find Eric, and that children can locate their makers by a blood connection. And we know that Pam flew, so she probably had gotten at least near to Eric when the flaming occurred. But how could Pam save Eric and not fry herself?
What we don’t know is whether Alexander Skarsgard has signed on for another season… or if the show, unafraid of diverging from the books, has decided to write out this key character altogether. Do you think our favorite viking met the true death?
