Some of the best series on Netflix are their originals: Daredevil , Stranger Things , House of Cards , and now, A Series of Unfortunate Events and The Punisher . When it was announced that A Series of Unfortunate Events was going to be a Netflix series, the internet erupted. This is not the first adaptation of the famed novels, but it may become the most popular.

Written by Lemony Snicket, a pen name for author Daniel Handler, the stories consists of 13 books. In 2004, a movie (starring Jim Carrey) about the gothic fable was released, and the critics gave it positive reviews. But die-hard fans were disappointed. Although it was visually stunning, the film drifted away from what made the stories so popular. Some audiences felt it had too much slapstick comedy and that it wasn’t dark enough. In addition, the film only covered the first three installments, and viewers felt like they were left hanging after the franchise was canceled.
But there’s finally good news for Snicket enthusiasts. As Hypable reported, fans may finally get the adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events that they’ve been waiting for.
“Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will star Neil Patrick Harris in the role of Count Olaf, and on a recent episode of Live! with Kelly , the actor shared many interesting details about the new show.
‘They truncated all of the books into a two hour movie,’ Harris said of the Unfortunate Events movie starring Jim Carrey, noting that it just wasn’t a great adaptation. ‘And there’s thirteen books in the series. So [Netflix’s take] is more spread out. Each book is going to be two episodes. We did the first four books, the first eight episodes of the show.’”

The actor would also state that the show would be dark but still suitable for children. Netflix is describing the series as a four-quadrant show: the target audiences are children, teenagers, twenty-somethings, and older adults. Lemony Snicket is the executive producer of the new show, so this particular adaptation has great expectations.
In the humorous teaser trailer below, Snicket (portrayed by Patrick Warburton) urges viewers to stay away from the show. A Series of Unfortunate Events debuts on January 13, 2017.
In Marvel news, The Punisher has begun production! Streaming subscribers were first introduced to Frank Castle (the Punisher’s real name) in the second season of Daredevil , and many feel he stole the show. Jon Bernthal ( The Walking Dead ) plays Castle, and in June, the actor spoke with Deadline regarding the Netflix series .
“I don’t think that I ever had any real longing or clear conscious aspirations to jump into the whole superhero genre. It was never really something that I pursued. What grabbed me about Frank is that he’s the quintessential opposite of that. He has no superpowers. He’s unbelievably human. It’s humanity that makes him such a force to be reckoned with.”
Iron Fist and The Defenders are set to be released in 2017, followed by The Punisher . Fans are hoping to see Frank Castle make an appearance in The Defenders , which will help tie fans over before The Punisher is released.
On October 3, photos of Bernthal on the set of The Punisher were tweeted out. This first glance at the series is circulating the internet fast, and fans are curious as to why Castle is sporting a beard. Regardless of the reason, The Punisher is sure to deliver high-caliber action.
