The sheer speed and mesmerizing agility of the California dolphins captivated the whale boat passengers. The dolphins were porpoising, the term used to describe the creatures when they are engaged in their fasted mode of movement.
Dana Point reportedly has more dolphins per square mile than anywhere else in the United States. Pods of more than 10,000 dolphins are not uncommon in the region throughout the year. An underwater camera on Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari boat allowed the excited passengers to gain an even more unique view of the dolphin stampede.
A typical Captain Dave’s excursion reportedly include sighting of large herds of dolphins, minke whales, and fine whales, according to the company’s website .
