Rock icon David Bowie has returned after nearly a decade away from music with a brand new single and a video.
Although Bowie has dropped a few compilations and a handful of live releases over the past few years, the musician hasn’t unleashed new tunes upon his fans since the 2003 album Reality . According to MSN , the rocker decided to celebrate his birthday (January 8) with a brand new single.
David Bowie’s new song “Where Are We Now?” showed up on iTunes early this morning. Those who wish to watch the new video for the tune can do so right now by paying a quick visit to the musician’s official website . The clip has also been embedded below.
The song features Bowie looking back on his time spent in Berlin, where he recorded quite a few of his most memorable offerings. As he name checks a number of the places he used to hang out, Bowie delivers the line “just walking the dead.” The song itself is rather melancholy, particularly when combined with director Tony Oursler’s unusual video.
According to The Huffington Post , many of Bowie’s fans are more than a little surprised to find a new song available for purchase on the man’s birthday. Since the musician had stuck to his retirement by turning down a number of high-profile gigs, many folks thought their hero was finished with music for good.
David Bowie , who turns 66 today, is preparing to unveil his new album “The Next Day” at some point this year. Although Amazon or his official site doesn’t have a release date listed as of this writing, his Wikipedia discography suggests the disc will land this March. Of course, information gleaned from the site should be taken with a grain of salt.
