The Street Fighter II SNES trilogy is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console.
When you think of classic fighting games, they don’t get much more classic than Street Fighter II . Capcom gave us the first fighting game that actually made gamers want to come back for more, and it’s been doing so for nearly three decades now.
Faced only with then newcomer Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II was a cleaner game in almost every way. It was so clean, in fact, that when the game was ported to the SNES in the midst of a new ratings system, very few edits needed to be made, unlike the other game, replacing buckets of blood with buckets of sweat. The uncomfortably placed shoulder buttons weren’t enough to deter SNES fans from loving every installment of the game and its updates. After all, Street Fighter II was the game everybody tried and usually failed to compete with.
The Capcom fighting game classic is now making its way to the Wii U Virtual Console, giving Nintendo’s flagging console one more reason to tell gamers, “Hey, I have fun things to do. Pick me up.”
Capcom is even offering a deal for those who already own the Wii Virtual Console versions, giving them the chance to upgrade to the new version for only a dollar fifty each. Also, if you buy one on the Wii U Virtual Console, you get a 50 percent discount on the other two parts of the Street Fighter II SNES trilogy in North America . European gamers who buy two of them will get the third one free.
By themselves, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II: Turbo, and Super Street Fighter II will cost $7.99 each. The only question remaining is why you would buy the other two versions if you already own the one you want. The classic original gives you eight fighters and little else, while the others add playable bosses and new challengers, and even speed settings if you really want to up the ante.
