Jamaal Anderson is no longer a Chicago Bears defensive end.
The NFL veteran’s short tenure with the Bears ended on Saturday and was confirmed by team officials.
Drafted by the Atlanta Falcons as the No. 8 overall draft pick in in the 2007 NFL draft, the pass rusher never lived up to the hype surrounding his expected promising career. Over 5 seasons Anderson has managed just 7.5 sacks.
In 2012, Anderson managed to step out onto the field for two games with the Bengals. Despite his failure led by injury, the Bears gave Anderson what was likely his last chance to impress.
Before playing with the Bengals, Jamaal had been given a short opportunity with the Indianapolis Colts in 2011.
After announcing his departure, the team’s front office also revealed the singing of defensive tackle Eric Foster and waiver of linebacker Andrew Starks.
According to reports, the Chicago Bears released Jamaal Anderson so they could clear way for backup quarterback Jordan Palmer.
Last season, Anderson suffered from a quadriceps injury. The Chicago Bears front office has not said if that injury may have further slowed Jamaal’s progress on the field.
Anderson signed a one-year contract with the Bears.
