Tomb Raider is not expected to get any single player DLC.
At the inception of a dynamic reboot to the Tomb Raider franchise, gamers everywhere were skeptical. Sure the series has had its share of sequels, but most of them after the PlayStation’s Tomb Raider 2 were just terrible. Even the next-generation remake we already saw was lacking what made the first two games such classics.
Tomb Raider 3 had disappointed fans everywhere with its ramped-up starting difficulty and near-impossible-to-find pickup items that blended into the environment a little too well.
Needless to say, the announcement of a reboot didn’t excite the masses. If anything, it was most likely met with a collection groan.
However, hands-on reviews finally convinced us that Tomb Raider ‘s latest reboot was the shot in the arm that the franchise needed to bring it back to A-list status. And the announcement of multiplayer was icing on the cake.
Now for those of you who don’t like playing online or don’t have an internet connection for your games, the reboot game is all you’re likely to get until a sequel is made. The only DLC planned for Tomb Raider at this point is for the multiplayer mode.
The first DLC released was the “Caves and Cliffs” pack for multiplayer maps, in the first indication that single player Tomb Raider is staying as is.
Director Noah Hughes said, “Currently there are no plans regarding single-player DLC. Now that Lara is more experienced, we are excited to take her on new adventures that challenge her new strength and confidence. It is important that even as Lara grows as a character, so do the challenges she must face.”
Global brand director Karl Stewart added, “There are currently no plans in place for any single-player expansions. All of our DLC is based around the multiplayer experience for now.”
From Karl Stewart’s statement, we can speculate that Tomb Raider might get single player DLC down the line, but that’s not the current focus.
