Zanesville, OH – Katrina Marie Culberson admitted to being party to a murder which left another woman covered in blood and writhing in agony alongside a rural road before succumbing to her injuries. During a jailhouse interview with the Times Recorder , Culberson said she wanted to feel like a human being again and talked about her feelings regarding the murder of her best friend, Celeste Fronsman.
A man driving along a secluded rode near the eastern Ohio town found Fronsman, who had been raped and suffered burns on approximately 80 percent of her body. A strap had been secured around her neck at some time during the alleged torture, which led to her death, according to NBC 4 News .
The victim received treatment for two days at a Columbus hospital before dying. It took the Zanesville coroner more than a month to determine a cause of death due to the severe burning of the body.
Katrina Culberson had this to say about her role in the violent murder:
“I want to be a human being again, not some monster. Some of the decisions I’ve made are not even the real Katrina. I just want to be normal. I’ve created a huge mess. Right now I can’t even think positive. I want to ask God for forgiveness for everything I’ve ever done.”
Although the 20-year-old Ohio woman did not reveal any specifics about the crime during the interview, she did state that the other two suspects, also currently residing in jail cells, had a part in the killing. She did want to apologize to the victim’s family, even though she realized nothing she could say would bring Frosnman back. “But they have to know the risks we took in our lifestyles,” she said.
Culberson, Monica Jean Washington, 24, and LaFonse Darney Dixon, 33, will all stand trial on kidnapping, aggravated arson, and aggravated murder charges. According to statements made during the jailhouse interview and court records, Culberson and Dixon were a longtime couple. The pair and the victim were allegedly involved with prostitution and drug dealing in the Canton area.
Dixon had this to say about his arrest:
“Hey, I’m just a drug dealer just trying to sell my drugs and be with my family. I watched my sister die in a house fire when I was young, and I’d never do anything like that to someone. I’m not a violent person, man. I’m a lover and a father. I just want out of here and be able to go home to my three boys and family.”
Dixon also faces two additional conspiracy charges for allegedly planning or helping plan the murder. Washington and Dixon deny all the charges levied against them.
