Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham Says Band’s New Songs Are ‘Great’

Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham has revealed the band have been writing songs for a possible new studio album, and says that they sound “great.”

NME reports that Buckingham, co-lead singer and guitarist, has confirmed that the band have written new material and that some of those songs will be played during their upcoming reunion tour, which kicks off from April 4 in Columbus, Ohio.

When the reunion shows were first announced, many outlets reported that the shows wouldn’t showcase new Fleetwood Mac songs, but clearly that’s now changed.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stones, alongside Stevie Nicks and the drummer and founder of the band, Mick Fleetwood, Buckingham said :

“When Stevie was on the road [1994], and not long after her mom had passed away, Mick, John and I got together and we cut a bunch of tracks, and they turned out great. They were all done in Stevie’s keys … with her in mind. Subsequently, Stevie and I have gotten together, and she’s sung on two of those.”

He added :

“There’s also another track that dates back to [pre-Fleetwood Mac project] Buckingham-Nicks that Stevie and I built up from scratch. There’s a lot of stuff there. Some of this we will do in the show. We’re not pushing it. We’re just going to wait and see what everybody wants to hear.”

That will almost certainly include several songs from the band’s seminal 1977 album Rumours , now celebrating its 35th anniversary [although chart success for the album in a number of countries didn’t happen until 1978.]

To mark the anniversary deluxe and expanded reissue packages were released on January 29, and Rumours is now set to re-enter the UK’s Top Ten this weekend.

Last year, speaking about upcoming reunion world tour, Nicks told Rolling Stone:

“If everything goes will we’ll be in Europe doing festivals this summer. Then we’ll actually tour Europe, which is different than just doing festivals. Then we might do fifteen or so shows in Australia.”

She went on to say :

“It’s the perfect time to go back out. 2013 is going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac.”
