Is Veronica Mars heading to the big screen? It just might if new traction on the project is true. The 2004 CW series saw Kristen Bell playing a Nancy Drew-type of hardened teen cracking the toughest mysteries. The CW canceled the series back in 2007, but it may be revived for the big screen.

Over the years both Kristen Bell and creator Rob Thomas have teased fans along, agreeing on several occasions to wanting to continue the story for the big screen. However, then Bell exploded with a lucrative film career while balancing voice over work for Gossip Girl. Even though Bell is busier than ever, but now there’s whispers that Veronica Mars may just come back.

Bell, who is currently expecting her first child with fiance Dax Shepard , told Entertainment Weekly : “We all became so close, and the cancellation of the show left a huge hole in my heart. I would have put on Veronica Mars: The Circus to bring it back.”

It looks like the circus that is Veronica Mars is coming to town. Today, Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have launched an internet Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a low-budget film. Kickstarter was created with the intent to help independent filmmakers raise money for different artistic pursuits.

According to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign, their goal is pretty lofty compared to other Kickstarter campaigns. Their goal is to reach $2 million dollars in the span of 30 days. If they can’t reach their goal then the film won’t happen. Right now it’s a toss up with 2, 337 backers and $174,643. However, one refresh and the money amount and backers seem to be growing.

The incentives to bid are plenty for any Veronica Mars fans. The smallest prize is at $10 which gets a fan a pdf of the shooting script on the movie’s release, to the highest pledge for $10,000 which is already gone. The highest bid will get a fan a speaking role in the movie, a framed copy of the script, an invitation to the premiere and after party, and a lot of signed merchandise.

So if Rob and Kristen want this film to come to fruition, then why can’t they pull this together with a studio? Well, originally Warner Bros. had said that the film with a bigger budget and a marketing package was too expensive for the studio. However, the two seem to be quite confident that the fans can raise them all the money they need to make the Veronica Mars film happen.
