Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Ultimate Edition is coming to PC.
Castlevania has seen its share of ups and downs. Back in the early days, it was almost the definition of the horror game before the genre went all-out. You always had a member of the Belmont clan, usually Simon, who would bring a magic whip to fight the prince of darkness himself and his minions. No, not the Osbournes; we’re talking about Count Dracula and his armies of the undead and monsters galore.
On the NES, the series began with one of the hardest games of all time, where night and day alternated and made the world a giant death trap as zombies swarmed the path. On the Nintendo 64, we were given the 3D crap fest that proved how bad the game could be. Yes, Castlevania was one of many victims of a bad transition to the third dimension like so many others.
In the end, Konami discovered that just improving the graphics in a 2D side-scrolling game was enough to please the fans, and created some of the best games in the series.
This time around, however, even the current generation consoles demand something more due to the ability to do so much with the 3D elements these days. If it isn’t 3D rendered, they might as well put it on a mobile platform, according to recent trends. This is where Castlevania: Lords of Shadow comes in.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Ultimate Edition is one of those titles that pretty much demands the 3D treatment, and that’s what we’re getting, in high definition no less. The game was rumored for release in March as Steam’s registry updated with the title, but apparently there was more work to be done.
This latest entry in the Castlevania franchise was originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2010, and now PC gamers will get an updated version of the vampire-hunting mayhem in 1080p HD.
