A loyal pit bull saved her family from a fire before it overtook their Oklahoma home on Tuesday.. She is also credited with saving five other family dogs from the terrible blaze.

The heroic ten-year-old pit bull, named Baby, alerted her sleeping owners to the fire early Tuesday morning. Rhonda Westenberger and her sister Evelyn were able to escape unharmed and they say they owe their lives to the sweet dog.

KOCO News reports that the sleeping sisters were awakened by insistent barks from Baby. The women fully awakened once Baby began to repeatedly nudge one of the sisters.

According to Rhonda Westenberger, the sisters had mere seconds to dash to safety before the rapidly spreading fire would have prevented their escape:

“There were flames shooting down the hallway. If Baby hadn’t woken Evelyn up, I don’t think either one of us would have come out of it.”

KFSN News writes that while Rhonda and Evelyn were able to escape unharmed, five other family dogs inside the Lincoln County home were afraid to come outside.

Baby made it her mission to save them too. Family member Charles Land recalls how one particular dog was saved from the fire:

“And then there was one hiding under the bed, wouldn’t come out. Baby actually went under there, grabbed it by the neck and dragged him outside.”

The family lost their home of 17 years, along with everything inside it. However, they are focusing on the love and gratitude they feel toward their beloved pit bull.

To Rhonda Westenberger, Baby is nothing short of a hero:

“I’m so proud of her. She is my hero. She’s the hero for all of us.”
