The Vampire Diaries fans will have a reason to rejoice now that showrunner Julie Plec has confirmed that Nina Dobrev is indeed eager to come back for the show’s finale. The beloved CW series is on its eighth and final season, which makes viewers wonder if Nina will consider a return.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight , Julie said that she already talked to Nina about her possible appearance in the finale. The 27-year-old left the show prior to its Season 7 airing to pursue her yearning to star in movies.
“She and I have spoken and I know that she 100 percent wants to be there and I, of course, 100 percent want her to be there, and so it just comes down to stupid things like scheduling. Honestly, let’s put it this way: I would be devastated if it weren’t to work out, so I have a feeling the cards will be in all our favor.”
Nina previously surprised fans when she made a cameo in the finale of The Vampire Diaries Season 7. The Canadian beauty allotted time to record her voice for a scene where Damon hears Elena in the vault. Julie teased that Damon and Elena, one of the most admired pairings in The Vampire Diaries , might just get the happy ending fans have been longing for.
“ I am very excited. We get little hints and teases of her face all through the season. Damon’s memories of her play a big part of the season, and I was just looking at a scene yesterday and being able to see her face brought back so much emotion and nostalgia and sweetness. It’s lovely to have her in the narrative in the way that she is.”
However, even if Julie is a self-confessed fan of happy endings (her favorite finale was of Friday Night Lights), she likewise recognizes that closure sometimes equates to “death and tragedy and sad endings.” For her, these are just “as potent and powerful as happy endings.” She envisions that The Vampire Diaries finale will marry the two types of endings.
As for other epic love teams in the show, Julie teased that the creative team has the power to do anything it wants.
“ Well, when you’re going towards the end, you can do anything you want. You can tear a couple apart violently, you can bring a couple together forever, you can declare love epically. You can do anything you want — and we intend to do all of it.”
Paul Wesley recently told TVLine that Stefan and Caroline will “start off pretty strong” in the new season but things could get dark for them. He claims he has no idea yet if the two will end up together. Candice King agreed stating that the two “have to balance some pretty adult things.”
Now that The Vampire Diaries is nearing its end, it is normal for fans to feel sad, but there’s a great chance next year that some of the characters from Mystic Falls will appear on The Originals. The CW boss is pleased to have worked with wonderful people, that’s why one of her goals is to search for ways on how to make the worlds of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals meet.
As for Nina’s return, fans must cross their fingers as Julie tries to fix the schedules. Last August, CW president of programming Mark Pedowitz shared that they would love to have the actress back because of her integral role in the series. He said that discussions with Nina have started then but “should it not work out, Julie has planned a great finale that will satisfy fans.”
