Are you waiting for your Catfish fix? It looks like you may not have to wait too long. MTV released the details along with a trailer for its second season of the hit TV show Catfish .
MTV is back with Nev Schulman and camera man Max Joseph for a second expanded season of Catfish . The show is returning with a 16-episode season, and from the trailer released it looks like the two are ready to uncover the real truth about the identities of various online romances.
The Catfish season two trailer features the duo embarking on a whole new set of online “mysteries” to uncover, which include a woman who hasn’t met the “love of her life” of a whopping eight years, and another man who has been lending his online love financial support. The trailer suggests that it looks to be a juicy season of shocking reveals. At one point both Nev and Max exclaim, “Woah!” as they are stunned to find a few hidden gems during their Google search for the truth.
Catfish is a show based on the “is it or isn’t it- a-mocumentary?” of Nev Schulman’s experience falling in love with a woman online, who had been lying to him for months on end about her identity. Once he became suspicious Schulman and his brother/director Ariel Schulman decided to pursue their journey further and capture the unveiling of said woman.
Nev continued the journey outside of his own experience to help others to uncover their true love’s identity, and the result was an incredibly popular MTV show. The show became so popular that the “catfish” term caught on, and became the coined term for people being duped by their online love interests. Most famously it became integral in the controversy surrounding NFL player Manti Te’o when it was revealed he had been duped by his online girlfriend, who lied about her identity and a fatal illness.
The show became so popular tied into the Te’o controversy, that it found its way on Saturday Night Live as a pretty decent parody sketch. Host Adam Levine played a super energized Schulman, as the sketch spoofed the obvious format of the MTV series.
Prior to the season debut, MTV will air a 30-minute special called Hooked on Catfish: The Road to Season Two at 11 pm on June 17. The official start of the new season kicks off June 25 on MTV.
