Patrick Stewart Explains First Pizza Slice Tweet

Patrick Stewart stirred up social media last week when he tweeted a picture of himself eating his first New York ever pizza slice.

The pizza parlor in question, originally unidentified, was Smiling Pizza in Brooklyn, the NYC borough where Stewart now lives.

It was a slice of life of Patrick Stewart. But the internet appeared stunned with the news that the Star Trek and X-Men actor never consumed pizza before. But it was all a big misunderstanding

It turns that out that the key word here is “slice” which was brought about by a hangover. The simple explanation is that in the past, the actor explained that he would chow down on a whole pie rather than just a solitary slice.

Stewart, 72, who is from northern England, admitted he was in his 20s when he started eating pizza, but he never before ate it by the slice : “People misunderstood. There was a school of thought that I had eaten my first pizza, but of course how could that possibly be true? I would have had to have stayed locked up in a cellar. But nevertheless, this was my first slice of pizza, which I was only eating because my fiancée and I were a little hung-over yesterday morning and she said what we need is pizza and a soothing drink — and she was right. It solved the problem. But, in fact, it was my first slice, and when it was brought over to me, my first comment was ‘There’s no knife and fork.’ Of course, I was mocked for thinking that I could eat a pizza slice with a knife and fork.”

Stewart opted for the New York “fold” technique to eat his slice.

Added Stewart: “I would go in [to a pizza parlor] and order a pizza and eat a whole pizza. It was the concept of the slice that I had never encountered before.”

Continuing his pizza tour, the acclaimed actor apparently is in Chicago today where is trying out a slice of deep dish pizza, according to the tweet below.

Stewart admitted that next on his personal menu is sampling 100-year-old eggs that are usually found in Asia.

Are you relieved to know that Patrick Stewart, a.k.a. Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, has indeed tried pizza before?
