McRib Delayed: World Hungrily Awaits December Release

McDonald’s most mystical and magical sandwich won’t be hitting stores until December. Yes, unfortunately, the McRib has been delayed.

The McRib Sandwich, which has developed a cult following over the years, was scheduled to hit stores this weekend. McDonald’s planned on selling the sandwich from October 22nd to November 11th, according to NBC , but the McRib has been delayed until December.

But why? Why would McDonald’s choose to delay the nation’s happiness?

According to a leaked memo, the fast food chain is holding onto the McRib until December to boost fourth quarter sales. Last year the sandwich didn’t do as well as expected due to an unseasonably warm December. McDonald’s is hoping that a holiday season ad rush coupled with cold weather will help the McRib boost its 2012 sales at the end of the year.

According to the Clarion Ledger the McRib was introduced by McDonald’s in 1981. It was pulled from the menu in 1985 but made its return a few years later in 1989. Since 2005, however, the sandwich has only been available during limited time releases.

The McRib may be delayed but McDonald’s is filling its menu with other options. A Cheddar Bacon Onion Angus Burger and Fish McBites will soon be added to the menu.
