Mike Huckabee spoke on the sequester from the daily broadcast of the Huckabee Report. The Fox News Host says the Democrats are “fear mongering” when it comes to the sequester instead of being honest about the budget problems, or Obamageddon, caused by spending.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , about $85 billion in automatic spending cuts will hit both the Pentagon’s defense budget and domestic programs, which includes roughly $11 billion in cuts coming from Medicare. As a comparison, these spending cuts are a tiny 2.4 percent of the $3.6 trillion worth federal spending that comes out of $15.7 trillion generated by the American economy.
Mike Huckabee had this to say on the live broadcast of the Huckabee Report :
“To listen to the White House, fiscal Armageddon will result, or as I call it, “Obamageddon.”… Even liberal commentators are skeptical at the fear mongering over a spending cut that is one-eighth the percentage of GDP that was cut during the Clinton years, when the economy boomed.”
Mike Huckabee says that the budget of federal agencies have increased by 17 percent since 2008, when Obama first took office, and the sequester is only a 5 percent cut. Huckabee says “the cut amounts to less than half of what the government spent on the AIG bailout alone” and “the government is spending the equivalent of more than $31,000 for every household in America.” Thus the sequester amounts to merely a slowing of the increasing in federal spending. To reduce government spending to 2008 levels, Congress would have to cut $362 billion in annual spending, while the sequester is only $85 billion.
The sequester has both political parties playing the blame game . This writer’s recent article on the sequester timeline shows that Bob Woodward is blaming Obama and the White House for the sequester. Despite this history, Obama’s White House has been quick to blame Republicans , saying that the “balanced” approach would be to increase taxes even more in addition to some spending cuts.
On the other side, Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona said on NBC’s Meet the Press that “Republicans deserve blame; I’ll take some blame for it.” But you have those like John Boehner (R-OH) calling the sequester the “obamaquester” in hopes that the label will stick. It has not, and Republicans are being blamed for this crisis by the majority of Americans , even though Republicans in the House have passed two bills that allow Obama and Federal agencies greater liberty in how the spending cuts will be proportioned while Senate Democrats have done nothing.
Do you agree with Mike Huckabee’s assessment of the sequester? Do you think Democrats are using “fear mongering” to try and increase taxes instead of cutting spending?
