Rumors surrounding the fate of the Star Wars franchise have been in high gear since Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm was announced last week. According to Collider , fans currently have an abundance of reports to fuel their endless speculation.

Perhaps the biggest rumor regarding the franchise was the announcement that Harrison Ford is open to reprising his role as Han Solo in a future cinematic installment of the series. Entertainment Weekly reports that Ford has a few stipulations for producers.

“Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all three of them are,” a source explained to the website. The other individuals interested in returning to the Star Wars universe are Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Ford strongly believed that his character should have died in Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi . However, Lucas had other ideas for Han Solo.

“I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom. George didn’t think there was any future in dead Han toys,” the Indiana Jones star said in a 2010 interview.

According to Crave Online , Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is rumored to have left the latest X-Men movie to helm the next Star Wars movie. Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed as of this writing.

Since very few details about the next movie are currently available to nerds, fanboys, and Star Wars aficionados, speculation about where the story is headed next have been spiraling out of control. While some believe the film will be based on the novels by author Timothy Zahn, sources have stated that the plot will be completely original .

Even Eric Geller at TheForce.net thinks Zahn’s books are the next logical step in the series.

“Of all the speculation out there about the content of this new trilogy, that’s the single most concrete idea,” he explained. “It’s almost inevitable that the story will take place in the same time frame as those books.”

Are you excited that Harrison Ford might return to the Star Wars universe? Do you think Matthew Vaughn is the right choice to the direct the film?
