Joshua Boston, the former US Marine whose open letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D – Calif.) went viral, says there is historical precedent for efforts by totalitarian governments to confiscate guns. Registration is a precursor to confiscation, he claims.
In his letter to the senator about her proposed gun control legislation in the aftermath of the Newtown school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School , Cpl. Boston declared that he is not a “subject,” “servant” or “peasant” and shouldn’t be punished for the acts of one, mentally ill, individual. “I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public,” he wrote.
Feinstein wrote back to Boston, telling him that her bill would exempt “hundreds of weapons used for hunting and sporting purposes.” Boston told FNC , however, that the response was unsatisfactory:
“This idea that the rights of existing gun owners is strictly limited to hunting and sporting purposes is just absurd and has no basis in the Bill of Rights. It’s not what it was for.
Boston seems to feel that there is a danger of the federal government coming after everyone’s guns:
“It’s something we’ve seen happen time and time again in history. With Stalin, it happened in Cambodia and of course, the Third Reich. No one saw that coming until it was too late.”
He also added that disarming law-abiding citizens, assuming that occurs, would also embolden criminals.
Do you agree or disagree with Joshua Boston’s views on the true intent of gun regulations?
