James Gunn, the man responsible giving the world Slither and Super , has confirmed via his official Facebook page that he’ll be sitting in the director’s chair for the upcoming Marvel flick Guardians of the Galaxy . For those of us who have been following the filmmaker since his days at Troma, Gunn’s involvement in the project is certainly a reason for celebration.
According to Cinema Blend , rumors have been swirling for a few weeks that Gunn was the top runner for the Guardians of the Galaxy gig over at Marvel. Although several websites declared the director to be the man for the job, nothing official had been confirmed from either camp. Gunn, thankfully, took to his Facebook page to set the record straight.
Here’s what the Dawn of the Dead scribe had to say on the subject:
“As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Thanks – you have, honestly, touched and overwhelmed me. And that’s it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I’ll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians is released!”
According to Internet Movie Database , James Gunn’s cinematic adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy is slated to arrive in US theaters on August 1, 2014. Before this particular effort comes to fruition, Gunn’s Movie 43 , which features a slew of different directors and an ensemble cast, will arrive in US theaters on January 25, 2013.
