Vera Farmiga portrays Norma Louise Bates in Bates Motel . Charlie and the Chocolate Factory alumnus Freddie Highmore has been charged with tackling the role of Norman Bates. The character was previously portrayed by Anthony Perkins in a number of motion pictures.
Created by writer Anthony Cipriano, the series explores the events prior to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho . Norma Louise Bates purchases a small motel on the outskirts of a coastal town in order to start life anew with her son Norman.
The series explores the troubled relationship between the young man and his controlling mother. A&E purchased a total of ten episodes of the program without seeing a pilot. The first episode aired on March 18.
Cipriano’s Bates Motel series is in no way connected with writer-director Richard Rothstein’s 1987 film of the same name. The movie follows the story of an unstable young man (Bud Cort) who inherits the infamous motel from Norman Bates. The film was originally shot as a pilot.
In addition to her role on A&E’s new drama, Vera Farmiga has also wrapped production on a number of features. The acclaimed actress will soon appear in director James Wan’s upcoming horror flick The Conjuring . Joining her for the gothic horror story are Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, and Lili Taylor.
Farmiga can also be found in director Aaron Rodgers’ romance Middleton . The actress appears alongside Andy Garcia and sister Taissa Farmiga.
